Dear Tremont Families,
I am writing to inform you of a serious incident that occurred at Tremont Middle School this morning at approximately 9:45 am. After discovering that a student had an unloaded firearm in a backpack stored in his locker, school administration worked with our school resource officer and the local police department to address the situation. The backpack and firearm were isolated in the middle school office before the student became aware the items were confiscated. The student was taken into custody, and at no time were threats made toward other students or staff.
I understand this news is alarming. Please know that the safety and security of our students and staff is always our top priority, and we are taking this matter with the utmost seriousness.
The district will not be releasing the name of the student. I want to thank the Tremont Police Department for their quick response today.
We will provide further information as appropriate.
Thank you for your continued trust and partnership.
